XXIV. on the Garland shooting

You crazy stupid brave Americans. It’s definitely circumstances and events and outcomes like this that are cementing your place as my favourite country. Two gunmen likely with explosives attacked an American Freedom Defense Initiative and managed to shoot a security guard before police (a S.W.A.T. team?) shot them both dead. / I would victim-blame like some other people on the internet; say that it’s surely because of the Draw the Prophet Muhammad cartoon that they were attacked, & that the gunmen were likely extremists, but that would be a disgusting thing to do.

Freedom cannot be given, it can only be taken.

That’s a paraphrase from Sartre, talking about selfcreation. And with that decision to be free which no one can convince you out of, they can only take from you, you also invite all of the negative aspects of being truly free. In this case, the hatred and the jealousy of those who are not free. The ones who attended this rally, & in a small number of other cases, are people who are exercising their freedom (without harming others) to whatever end, & their right to do this is absolute.

XVII. on sexuality & religion

So how old were you guys when you realised that sexuality doesn’t exist? / The people arguing for legal recognition and societal representation of alternative sexualities are are bad as those who argue for the law to recognise only straight relationships. Just be with who you want to be with — with due consideration of age ranges! / N.B. In respect of religious belief: if you are part of a religion which condemns samesex relationships — because there are no religions which condemn actually being gay; just acting on it — then either conform with your religion, be prepared to leave the backwards, intolerant religion, or accept that in the eyes of your religion you are a sinner.

VI. on the Muslim Manifesto

Big surprise: Muslim organisation that supports regulation of speech is supported by Labour. / Plus a revisionism that shouldn’t exist. The Qur’an does support the murder of innocents, it is also against it — just like most other religious texts — especially the Abrahamic faiths, which support and denounce almost every aspect of human life at some point — it was likely written by a few people over a period of time, describing great ideas such as the Golden Rule and spiritual growth, but also describing horrible ideas like crusade and jihad. / Wherever bad ideas exist, denial and censorship are not the answers. / But anyway, wherever weakness, perversion of natural law, wishfulthinking-based censorship, thinly-veiled Marxism & topdown rule is found, Labour won’t be far behind. / (And no, I clearly haven’t read it yet. . . .)

II. on American Sniper & the glorification of dead Muslims

So American Sniper is a pretty good film / Thought Bradley Cooper was v. good / Much better than I thought he’d be, anyway / And I don’t think it glorifies killing Muslims at all / It shows nearrealistic depictions of battles against Al-Qaeda, & if you see any glorification in there then it is glorifying killing people who are ideologically and in practise trying to kill you and your countrymen
